Mathlympics Performance Tasks:
Please use these however you please. I plan to have my students complete one per week in teams to earn points. The team with the highest number of points at the end of the mathlympics month will earn a prize.
Week 1: The week 1 task focuses on having students convert between mixed numbers and repeating decimals and locating these numbers on a number line to order them within the context of bobsledding times.
Week 2: The week 2 task requires students to convert numbers into scientific notation and compute with numbers in scientific notation to calculate costs associated with the winter olympics.
Week 3: The week 3 task requires students to graph proportional relationships, and model functions using linear equations. Then students will have to compare these functions within the context of olympic skiing.
Week 4: The week 4 task requires students to write and solve a system of linear equations within the context of a figure skating routine. An answer key is not provided for this task because all answers will vary.
These tasks are an excellent method of reviewing concepts from the whole year in an exciting way!
