This is an excellent review resource for 8th grade science standardized testing. It was developed to follow Texas STAAR testing standards, but it is excellent for tests from other states as well. It includes topics from all STAAR Readiness and Supporting Student Expectations. Broad categories such as Matter and Energy, Organisms and Environment, Force Motion and Energy, and Earth and Space are broken down into 124 topics for review. It can be used to post up on the wall and have students, individually or in groups or pairs, list one thing they know about the topic (definitions, formulas, examples, pictures, or graphs). When the next person adds his/her input, it must be something different than is already written. The idea is that one person will write the definition, and all others will dig deep to find something new to write. For example, if the paper says "Calculating Density," the things written could be the formula, definition of density, density pyramid, definition of mass, definition of volume, and sample problems. This resource could also be given out to each student to put their own thoughts together about each topic. I have used it for the past two years, and the students have said it really helped them to refresh and review the topics for testing. I put them up in the room or hall outside my room and gave them two weeks to complete it. I had them initial beside their input so that I knew what each student was writing.
