To create fair assessments that prepare my 8th graders for high school regent exams I went through all of NYS old 8th grade exams, and pulled every question related to each unit. Question types range from DBQ, multiple choice, political cartoons, central idea, graphs and charts, short answer, maps, and general economics.
Multiple choice questions have been grouped together by theme. Students will notice that the questions can be similar, and this then turns into an excellent time to discuss test strategies while reviewing the test once they are graded and returned.
Each unit roughly has one quiz with word matching, a unit test with about 25 multiple choice questions, and three DBQ questions. Test questions range based upon how popular a topic was on previous exams.
To help students review a crossword puzzle and study guide have been included for every unit. To offer additional resources a vocab Quizlet link, and a Kahoot review game with 10 questions from the test have also been included with the answer key!
The 8th grade standards have been divided into the following units: 1) Reconstruction, 2) Gilded Age, Industrialization & Rise of Unions, 3) Immigration & Expansion, 4) Progressives, 5) Imperialism & Westward Expansion, 6) WWI, 7) Roaring 20s & Great Depression, 8) WWII, 9) Cold War 1945- 1963, 10) Cold War 1963- 1990.
**Units 2 and 3 only have quizzes, and unit 4 encompasses the entire 8.2 Changing Society standard bracket with its unit test.
