In 8th grade Argument Writing is a strong focus. With this organizer, you can introduce your students to a simple, yet effective structure to help students begin writing strong arguments. With the addition of the counterclaim in 8th grade, students can prepare for the Smarter Balance assessments by using a simple organizer that they can apply to a variety of argument assessments. I've also included a rubric that I use to grade performance tasks that emphasize argument writing. I teach in a standards-based classroom using a scale of 1-4.
Performance Task: Text-Based Argument Rubric
