This download includes everything you will need to teach personal narrative writing through the writing of a family narrative for even the most inexperienced high school writer. The scaffolded instruction works to bring writers up from middle school to high school quality in their narrative writing throughout the process described in the 2 weeks (10 days) of lesson plans. Students will begin by learning about what narrative writing is and what a family narrative is. Then, students will evaluate examples and non-examples of this type of writing and read several mentor texts to prepare for the writing process. The 32 slide Narrative Writing PowerPoint will seamlessly guide students from brainstorming to self evaluation and publishing of their narrative writing. All necessary rubrics and answer keys are included to keep grading as simple and painless as possible.
The contents of this Zipped Folder include:
- One 20-page PDF of the Unit (includes student hand outs, lesson plans, instructions, rubric, answer keys, and PPT notes)
- 3 copies of the Author Background Slideshow (PowerPoint, Keynote, and PDF)

These 3 copies of the slideshows are included for compatibility with whatever technology you have in your classroom. The author slideshow provides a brief introduction to each of the four mentor text authors.
