OBJECTIVE: All students will be able to solve multi-step linear equations in one variable which result in infinite or no solutions. Students will also be able to determine the number of solutions by simple inspection.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: Students should know how to solve multi-step linear equations in one variable, add / subtract / multiply integers, add / subtract / multiply / divide signed rational numbers, use the distributive property, simplify expressions by combining like terms, identify properties of equality and justify their use, substitute to verify solutions, and identify solutions as valid or invalid.
STANDARDS DRIVEN: Students are primarily expected to solve multi-step linear equations in one variable resulting in infinite, no or one solution. Students will be expected to extend this ability to determine the number of solutions given a linear equation in one variable. This lesson follows a lesson on solving multi-step linear equations in one variable and will precede a lesson on solving simple quadratic equations.
