This smartboard lesson is a 3 part (3 40 minute session) unit on form. Each part contains listening and visual examples. All media is embedded into the file.
Part 1 - Round, Canon, and Fugues - Includes a finale file of Pachabel's cannon that visually shows the canon form (need to put finale into scroll view to work best), a video of a school production of "Fugue for Tinhorns" that through choreography shows a Canon (singer singing the beginning of the melody is staged center/front), and a listening example of Bach's Little Fugue in G Minor.
Part 2 - AB, ABA, and Rondo Form. Includes listening samples, a visual story explanation for Rondo, and a name that form challenge for students with audio samples embedded (can be adjusted/changed). Movement can be included to have students show the change from A section to B section in the listening examples. For more information how to tell the Rondo story, watch this video I created: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vANXiGa3mU
Part 3 - Theme & Variation. Name that form has 9 versions of the same song. Have the students name what is the same and what is different. It also has a student chart to figure out the variations in Arthur Fielder's "Yankee Doodle."
*Note: You will need Finale or Finale Notepad to view the Pachabel's canon example in the first part of this lesson.
