Does your fiftieth day of school fall around Halloween? Here is an academic writing sheet for your students to use. In a whole group setting, I have my students write all 40 of our Kindergarten sight words (using our handwriting lines). Then for the last 10 words, I have them write CVC words that we sound out together (bat, cat, etc.). Typically we celebrate the 50th day of school with a Sock Hop and we dress up like we are from the 1950's, but this year we are so close to Halloween I thought it may be nice to stick with October objects. To go with the 1950's theme, I usually give my students a piece of bubble gum once we have written the 25th word (I highly recommend this even without a 1950's theme). They know from the beginning that they'll get the gum at word 25, and once they have it and are chewing...the last 25 words aren't so tedious. This also gets us ready for our annual Bubble Gum Blow-Off in the spring (Yes, I teach my students how to blow bubbles on top of everything else!)I added little icons to go with each number to help my students stay on track.
This is a single sheet that is available for viewing in the small preview window to the left.
