In this lesson students get involved in actively creating a lunch menu for a 12-year old boy and a 12-year old girl.

The lesson include a variety of foods with nutritional information for each food item. The rules are that each lunch contain 1 fruit, a drink, and a sandwich containing either cheese or ham or both cheese and ham. The number of slices of cheese and/or ham is optional. However, the sandwich must contain two slices of bread. To include mayonnaise as a spread is also optional. There are also a variety of snacks that students can choose.

Included are:

Nutritional Information cards for five types of fruits, two vegetables, bread, mayonnaise, ham slices, cheese slices, three types of drinks, and four snacks.

Two worksheets to complete.

Calorie information for a boy and a girl.

Follow-up open-ended questions to use as discussion or set as research homework.
