This emergent reader, by Martha Krein, uses simple text to teach young readers about reptiles. Young readers can read the story independently or with some guidance from an adult.
Students use several reading strategies such as sight words, picture and context clues, sounds, vowel pairs and cvc words to decode text. It’s a great way to practice these common core literacy objectives.
Sight words included are: have, they, are, look, like, in, the, on, some, were.
Most of my middle of the year kindergarten readers could read this after I had introduced facts about reptiles. The National Geographic Book, Reptiles is a great resource to introduce a reptile unit to kindergartners.
This beginning reader is available to download in black in white.
