Using benchmarks or friendly numbers such as 3, 5, 10, and 20 allow students to develop a better understanding of numbers. This will also strengthen their ability to estimate quantities as they will have multiple benchmarks to compare to. They can use representations to see how a numeral relates to a quantity and within the sequence of numbers.
This package lets students compare, represent, and describe numbers to 20. Using representations, worksheets, and task cards, students are able to describe and justify their thinking to make their understanding deeper. This activity pushes for higher level thinking by integrating Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning into the tasks.
