This integrated, student-centered, learning guide / curriculum is a great addition to any social studies or homeschool curriculum for learning about Bulgaria.
This small country in Eastern Europe is home to a long history and strong culture. The topics included to not try to explain all aspects of life in Bulgaria but will give you a glimpse into many aspects of life within the country from 2010-2012.
There are 19 different activities. They include: Bulgarian alphabet, Bulgarian phrases, currency, fast facts, football (soccer), grandma March, horo, kukeri, make a 3D map, Peace Corps Volunteer Profiles (23), roses, St. Dimitar, school schedules, student profiles (6), summer foods, The Way I Saw It, traditional Bulgarian music, and wildlife and the environment. There is also an extensive appendix of materials to support the learning of these activities.
This curriculum was originally created when I was Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria in 2012 however has been revised and improved upon as of January 12, 2017. I find it is most successful with students in 5th-8th grade.
The download includes the curriculum. After downloading, simply email me at email@example.com for access to all additional materials including videos, photos, and other "extras" via Google Drive. "Extras" include presentations about school holidays and the Peace Corps; photos of stamps, currency, and the market; and pdfs of postcards, student books, and a map.
All videos were made with 5th and 6th grade students in Sliven, Bulgaria from 2010-2012 in an after school English club.
The only materials you will need to acquire to complete all activities are listed in the beginning message (things like lined paper, writing utensils, and yarn). I would recommend printing the learning guide / curriculum and inserting it into a 3 ring binder or pronged-folder in order to reduce screen-time reading. A device is necessary in order to view the videos and complete the necessary research (websites are provided).
A portion of all sales of this item will go to the purchasing and mailing of high-quality children's / young adult literature to teachers of EFL (English as a Foreign Language Language) in Bulgaria.
Thank you! I'm so happy you're interested in learning about Bulgaria and am happy to answer any questions you (or your students) may have.
