P. 3 Look at the Clues and Unscramble the Spelling Words! – after unscrambling the spelling words the students will separate the words based on the suffixes.
P. 4 Be a Detective and Find the Words to Know! – students find the words to know and color them the matching color. Words will cross so they will have multicolored words.
P. 5 Suffixes! Adding –y, -ly, -ful to a base word – The students will add a suffix to the base word to create a new word. Then they color the boats depending on the word’s suffix.
P. 6 Roll a Silly Sentence! –students will roll a dice for each part of the sentence. Depending on what number the students get, they will write a sentence with a noun, an adverb, a verb, and a prepositional phrase. They will write two sentences on the lines provided.
P. 7-9 Cause and Effect flip up book –copy side A and B together. Students cut on the dotted lines, fold on solid line. the students flip up the effect and write the cause under the flap on the lines provided
P. 10 Adverb fold book – students fold the book and do the different activities for the different types of adverbs
P. 11-12 Prefix –un flip book – students cut on dotted lines and staple the base words on top of the word ‘kind’ to see how the prefix –un can change the base words
P. 13 Which Bug Would Make the Best Detective? Why? - opinion writing
P. 14-19 The Mystery of the Missing______! Creative writing – students write about something they lost. What clues did they find? How did they solve the mystery? Add a thumbprint to the magnifying glass!
P. 20 Clue Concentration! - Play with a partner. Cut the cards out, turn them face down, Keep the clues and words in two separate piles. turn over two cards. Read the clue and read the ‘word to know’ to see if they match. If the student gets a match, they put it in their pile and go again. If they don’t get a match, it is their partner’s turn.
-this game can be laminated.
