This document examines how fiction works and how readers must behave to interact meaningfully with it. This little volume puts in one place everything I wish they would have taught me in college and grad school. After 25 years of teaching high-school English, this is my go-to document for teaching reading.
This 15-page document can be used by more advanced students to improve their reading skills, or it can be used by teachers to improve their foundational understanding of how fiction works so that they might design more authentic and complex lessons and so they might ask more pertinent and agile questions that nurture transferable skills.
English, Reading, Common Core--and it will work for AP Literature and Composition.
