Here are three different activities to help students practice working with numbers. The six work mats included cover number order, counting, and building numbers emphasizing numbers 1-12.
Number Order Work Mats:
Two work mats give students an opportunity to sort from least to greatest. Students pick number cards randomly to sort. One mat has spaces for 3 number cards, the other 5 number cards.
Two work mats will let the students sort from greatest to least. Again, one mat has spaces for 3 number cards, the other 5 number cards.
Roll and Count Work Mat:
This work mat shows two apple halves. Students will need to roll two dice to find out how many apple seeds each apple needs. Students will need to use black beans to build the dot pattern on each apple half. On the recording sheet, students will draw the seeds on two apple pictures, then write how many seeds in all.
Building Numbers Work Mat:
This work mat has a tens frame. Students pick a number card and build the number on the tens frame. Apple counters are included, but any manipulative can be used. I use apple buttons to make this a little more fun. On the recording sheet, students write the number on an apple, then draw dots on the tens frame to show what the number represents.
This is a great activity for a beginning-of-the-year math tub. It is perfect for my firsties!
