This Gold Nugget Tour is a travel tour adventure of 18 stops throughout California. It begins in Southern California and weaves north, ending in Coloma (where gold was discovered). This projects supports the Common Core standards of Literacy and Social Studies. You may use this project to enhance your social studies curriculum throughout the year. Everything is included: travel scripts for the teacher, travel tickets for the students, a binder cover, souvenir scrapbook pages, video links, and tour pages. The directions and all materials are clearly explained. Your students will love their virtual travel stops throughout our amazing state as they explore such sites as some of our famous missions, San Diego, Universal Studios, Hollywood, Big Sur, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, Death Valley, the Golden Gate Bridge, Sacramento, the Central Valley, Yosemite, Monterey, and Coloma. I teach 4th grade and this tour completely follows our social studies program throughout the year. My parents help me to prep and bring in fun treats and crafts which align to each stop. Each lesson takes about 45 minutes and I schedule them every other week. Your students will feel as though they are virtually traveling as they watch video links and board a variety of transportation modes as they create a year long travel scrapbook binder to take home at the end of the year. This project is my absolute favorite highlight all year long. I hope you will enjoy traveling with your students as much as I have. Have fun exploring our amazing state and safe travels!
