PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In this video we use a light bulb and copies of the zodiac constellations to model the constellations we can see from Earth and how these change from day to night and month to month. Using Stellarium, a computer planetarium program, we’ll take a quick detour to the southern hemisphere to show how these same constellations are seen at the same time of year regardless of season. A short discussion looks at how our atmosphere brightens our sky and how a sky without atmosphere would be completely dark.

Engaging Science Labs produces materials that are useful for classroom or homeschool environments.

Concepts Addressed
• Earth’s view of the constellations depends on where it is in its orbit.
• The zodiac constellations tell us where the sun is during a particular month.
