This activity is asking students to identify people, areas, and things inside their school that have a similar function to the organelles of eukaryotic cells. For this activity, they can travel around the school and will fill in the chart below - it's also suggested that they be able to take pictures to provide a visual aide for the analogy they develop. Depending on your class and age group of students, you can have them work together in small groups or pairs, or they can complete the activity individually. The rubric provided is optional depending on your own preferences for assessing students' work.
The instructions provided with this activity provide a procedure you can follow (for teachers and students), in addition to trouble areas to be aware of (I experienced these myself), alternative methods for completing the activity, and extensions you can incorporate into the activity to further enforce their understanding of the content and concepts.
