This activity is a pre-reading strategy. Prior to the students beginning A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer, they would take part in this fun activity. This previewing strategy includes questions and prompts about abuse, school, food, stealing, and empowerment. It promotes group discussion and piques students' interest. They enjoy moving around the room and are more involved in small and large group discussions. If you do not have room to move about, it can also be done at students' desks. This is an original carousel created by Christine Fry.
You can also revisit these questions after reading the novel in order to check for comprehension.
