Charles Dickens wrote this book between October and November in 1843. After feuding with his publishers, he decided to publish it himself, which costed him a pretty penny! He priced it at 5 schillings so the masses could afford to buy it. The book became an instant success, selling 6000 copies within the first few days. Dickens didn't become rich off this publication, but his endearing story had developed a fan base that would see him through the rest of his life.
