This is a one page graphic organizer. It is divided into four boxes. Each box is labeled (direct characterization:what the writer tells the reader about the character, indirect characterization:character's thoughts/speech, indirect characterization: character's actions, indirect characterization: what others think about the character. I use this as a group activity. Students find quotes from the book and write them down in the appropriate box. They then discuss what the quote reveals about the character and how. It works very well.
