Charles Dickens, His Life and Times...and A Christmas Carol: this resource is a perfect way to introduce your students to A Christmas Carol, giving students background on the novel and Charles Dickens. Each of the two texts can be used alone (but in sequence): they could be assigned as the teacher wishes, in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc.
The two texts are chronological and just over 400 words in length with an illustration:
--Part 1 is titled “Dickens’ Early Life” and Part 2 “Charles Dickens the Author”;
--each text has:
a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion)
a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short writing assignment.
--there is also a one-page cloze activity using the twelve vocabulary words from Parts 1 and 2 (introduced in the work sheet for each part);
-- a short quiz that consists of six multiple-choice questions and one short answer question;
--a full answer key is included.
This resource can be used anywhere as I have avoided the use of words that have American variations of spelling. (If you do find one has slipped through the net, please let me know right away and I will fix it!)
