This "A Christmas Carol" resource is based on the play that is found in 7th grade McDougal-Littell Language of Literature books by Frederick Gaines (but another version can also be found online here).

In my class, we read the play scene by scene. We analyze each scene with a discussion, plot diagram, some notes and then a compare/contrast graphic organizer as we compare/contrast the play scene by scene with "The Muppets Christmas Carol".

The learning goals are:

The student can identify and use

✔ plot structure to analyze a story

✔ compare/contrast to look at similarities and differences between the text and multimedia presentation of the same story

✔ inference skills to determine character traits and the theme

This resource contains:

★A link to the play version

★A link to the audio of the play

★A link to a Charles Dickens background video

★A link to a movie version featuring George C. Scott (not the Muppets version)

★Discussion questions for all 6 scenes

★Paper Notes – A set of notes for each of the 6 scenes in black and white, color and plain formats!

★Paper Plot diagram

★Plot diagram questions (guides) for each scene.

★Paper Venn Diagram – One for each scene to compare the play to a movie version (I suggest the Muppets version - but the video is NOT included.)

★Slides to present to the students on a screen

★Zap review game

★Paper Final Assessment

★An essay assessment option with outline and checklist

★Challenge activities (for advanced students)

★Digital introduction to Charles Dickens with embedded video

★Digital Notes - A set of notes for each of the 6 scenes!
