By the last week of school before Winter Break, my class is a little nutty every year. To help keep them calm, I like to use this time to teach them how to draw. It’s something that interests them, and it casts a calm feel to my classroom that I (as a mother of four) desperately need!
You’ll have to use your own creativity and artistic skills to show your students how to draw, I am just providing blank sheets for you to use. In the past, I used plain, white paper…but this year, I thought I would make these Blank Drawing Sheets to make my students’ drawings a little bit cuter.
I show my students how to draw each item, and I draw it with them while using my document camera (which shows my enlarged drawing on the big screen). My students use pencils to draw. Then they use black markers to trace what they have drawn. Last, they use colored pencils or crayons to color their pictures.
Students can color in the words and read the words on each sheet after they have drawn their pictures. For added educational value, you can have your students label what they drew.
There are several CCSS that list using drawings/ pictures OR writing for students to achieve that standard….what most people don’t realize is that most Kindergarten students have never been taught how to draw well. I am listing the standards that have “drawing” in them, so that we can all feel comfortable knowing that our sanity will be saved while accomplishing something that IS educational yet entertaining for our young, very excited students.
