As Christmas draws near, November and December would be the perfect time
to take a gingerbread person on a world tour to study the various cultures of the
Enclosed in this package is a letter to send home, a gingerbread template to
decorate and a bibliography of gingerbread man stories that celebrate different
world cultures and a journal recording sheet. Also, enclosed your will find some
examples of gingerbread characters made by Grade 1 students.
Familiarize yourself and your class with the gingerbread stories. Discuss the
countries that you want to visit so your students are aware of the different
countries and cultures. Copy enough of the gingerbread man template and the
letter to the parents for each student. Either let the students pick a country or
assign them a country to research and decorate their gingerbread man.
Then, with the letter send home the gingerbread template and the journal page.
As they return, share the characters and use them to prepare to celebrate
Christmas and the many different cultures and traditions. Have fun!The sky is the
