This is a powerful discrimination exercise I have done with my US History classes for the past 8 years. I adapted it from Jane Elliot's exercise she did with her elementary school kids after MLK, Jr. was assassinated and students wondered why someone would do that. There is a movie and book about it called A Class Divided. I am amazed at how many students sign up for this voluntary discrimination and it is one of the most mentioned activities when students come back to visit my class. It is one of the hardest weeks for me because I have to treat kids unfairly. You will most likely want to modify the rules to fit your class. This could be done for a day also and in a variety of subjects or classes. This is what is included.
1. Movie Questions to go along with A Class Divided.
2. Rules, Directions, Parent Permission slip.
3. Suggestions for implementing this exercise.
4. Points lost tabulation sheet.
