Product Description
This free #kindnessnation resource, perfect for first and second graders, invites students to create a written response to the book “You Can Sit With Me” (Lisa Combs, 2016). Please Note: You will need to purchase a copy of the book. This book addresses the issues of kindness and diversity in an appealing, child-friendly way through the simplicity of the inclusive statement, "you can sit with me", repeated throughout. This resource includes a structured written response to the book, using five different whimsical characters such as a monster, dragon, or troll. Students start by coloring the character creatively. They finish the sentence stem “You may” by describing attributes of the character. They should write a second positive sentence, expressing acceptance of the character or a sentence comparing the character to themselves. The last sentence is a refrain from the book. There is space at the top to draw themselves with the character. I have included a page without a character, if you’d rather your students draw. There is also a page to substitute sit in the last sentence with a different verb.

Included in this resource are 7 usable pages:
♦ 5 pages structured written response (the same on each page) with characters- monster, fuzzy critter, dressed fox, troll, dragon
♦ 1 page structured written response, blank space for drawing
♦ 1 page structured written response, blank space for drawing, blank writing space to change the verb
