This unit is designed to infuse First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) perspectives into the Ontario curriculum. Using a cross-curricular approach many expectations can be met in Art, Social Studies, Science, Math and Language for Grades 1 through 4, while gaining a deep and rich understanding of Canadian culture and heritage.
By learning about who are ancestors were and how they settled in Canada, what their relationship was to First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples (FNMI), and what traditions and beliefs different communities brought and shared with each other, we can gain a better sense of our past and how that has shaped us into the people we are today.
My intentions for this unit is to provide you with enough ideas to choose from so
you can switch up the activities from year to year. This will allow teachers with a split grade to change up the activities students are working on so there are no repeats from the previous year.
It is a labour of love and continues to grow in size with additional resources being added constantly.
