Description

Math mixed review is an essential part of my classroom! I have found out the hard way if students aren’t consistently reviewing skills throughout the year, they tend to forget what they learned in the months prior to testing. Mixed reviews are a great way to keep skills fresh in students’ minds and can be a terrific homework and intervention resource!

What’s included?

32 self-checking digital task cards (hosted at Boom Learning℠) which cover topics most students should be familiar with at the beginning of 4th grade.

Topics include:

• Subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division problems
• Solve for missing numbers
• Place value
• Math vocabulary
• Area and perimeter
• Word problems

….and more!

This set can also be used with advanced third graders and with upper grade students for review and remediation purposes.

How I Use This Resource:

I generally assign a set of mixed review questions such as these on Monday and students are responsible for having them completed by Thursday afternoon. (This is great for homework, study hall, or when they finish other work.) I then go over the students’ results Thursday night on my Boom Learning℠ reports, and on Friday, we go over the five to seven questions the majority of students struggled with.

This resource is also one of my favorite ways to see what concepts my students have mastered!

I came up with “A Dash of…” because I know my students need just a little bit of review every month, if not every week. A dash of different things in cooking can really spice up a dish, and I wanted to spice up my math intervention time! It’s wonderful when students progress in the grade level curriculum, but they also need the opportunity to look back at previously taught concepts. Sometimes kids don’t catch on the first, second, or third time, and repeated exposure to various concepts gives them the chance to master those skills.

The other meaning of “dash”--as in traveling in a hurried or hasty fashion--is a nod to my administrators, past and present, who don’t share my passion for re-teaching previous content. LOL They have generously allowed me to do reviews as long as I don’t take up too much time. :)

BTW, there are 32 cards in a set because that is the amount of work ALL of my students could complete in a “dash” each week.
