"A Day with the Concord Writers" is a 30-minute film that covers the events of July 4, 1845 in Concord, Massachusetts. This product includes 4 assignments and assessments, which are described below.

Summary of Film*
Louisa May Alcott is an unhappy 14-year-old who longs to write. While she is surrounded by Transcendentalist writers and thinkers, she is also plagued by chores and parental criticism in the hours before the Fourth of July picnic. Over the course of the day, she seeks the companionship and wisdom of her father Bronson and neighbors Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Use any or all of the included activities and assessments to supplement your Transcendentalism unit:

• Comprehension questions-- great to answer as a "stay awake" activity during the film (Bloom's Taxonomy Knowledge) (20 questions; 20 points)
• Critical thinking questions, including two paragraph writing prompts (Understanding, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation) (7 questions; 20 points)
• Quote identification quiz (10 questions; 10 points)
• Character quiz -- calls for the identification of a character based on his or her description. A character name bank is included (10 questions; 10 points)
