A Degree in Pedigree is a project that gives students control over selecting characteristics and making a dihybrid cross of a certain dog breed. This requires critical thinking by the student to select the best genes to be passed on throughout the generations and what genes need to be masked or even eliminated to create a better dog for the breeding program. In order to select the best genotypes from the litter, the student needs to understand the outcome probability. Working with five generations, the student group will create a pedigree and calculate the amount of money if the puppies from each generation are sold to loving homes. The outcome will be five different dihybrid crosses, genotypes, and a pedigree for each dog breed. This project includes eight different dog breeds to work with so that each group is working with a different breed, teacher instructions, and answer key.
