Huge Elementary Library Product Bundle!

This is a fun colorful spring activity to reinforce student knowledge of the nonfiction section of your library. You can use it as a review game after you have completed your instruction.

There are 105 Easter eggs each with a different Dewey number. They are the same numbers as my nonfiction Dewey shelf signs which you can purchase here:

Nonfiction Dewey Signs for your Media Center

Directions for the Dewey Easter Egg Hunt:

Print the Easter Eggs. I would strongly suggest printing them on cardstock and laminating them so you can reuse them year after year. Cut the eggs apart on the gray squiggly lines. The part of the egg that has just the Dewey number on it will be the ones that are placed on the shelves. My suggestion would be to stick them either in between some books that have the matching Dewey number or place the egg halves on top of the books with the matching Dewey number. Make sure they are sticking out enough for the children to find. I included blank Easter Eggs if you want to add some additional ones. UPDATED TO INCLUDE EGGS WITH EDITABLE TEXT!

The other halves of the eggs (the one with the Dewey number/subject) will be the ones that you will give to the students to go find the matching half. Students can do this by themselves or in groups, whichever you think would be best. Give the student(s) an egg half and tell them that they must go to the nonfiction shelves to find the matching egg half. When they find their missing egg half, they bring it to you for checking. If it’s a match, they get another egg half to find. If you want to get really creative, give them Easter baskets to place their eggs in!

You can award prizes for each egg they piece together (optional). I give one jelly bean for each match. After the activity is over, you may tell them that if they have an egg half that has a “Ninja Bunny” on it they get a prize (an extra piece of candy, a book mark, an extra book to check out during library time, etc.) Collect the eggs and store in a plastic Ziploc bag until next year. I choose responsible students to make sure they are all collected and matched up before they go into the bag.

Happy Spring!
