A Different Pond takes place at a pond in America. A father and son go fishing in the wee hours of the morning so the family can have food to eat. Father shares his Vietnam stories with his son at the pond. Then father takes the son home so that he can go to one job, then another. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal, and in a simple way, a beautiful immigration story is told.
The Guided Reading packet I prepared contains maps of Vietnam, Comprehension Reading Strategies, Critical Thinking, and a Venn Diagram for students to compare/contrast their family lives with the Father and Son in A Different Pond.
