50 word puzzle based on Act 1 of the play by Henrik Ibsen.
Words in the puzzle are...afford, agony, barrister, bitter, blackguard, bond, bookkeeper, borrow, caprices, cheap, corruption, crochet, debt, devoted, economize, embroidery, expensive, extravagant, fortunate, fraud, funds, guilty, imprudent, indiscretion, indulgent, inherit, installment, interest, macaroon, moral, owe, plead, plucky, precarious, promotion, proud, reckless, relieved, reputation, salary, secret, selfish, spendthrift, surety, trifle, whim, widow, widower, will, and wretched.
This is the type of activity that you could use with early finishers, or give to a sub teacher, or use as a filler on a day when you have nothing else prepared. Although students often see the puzzle format as a fun task, it is an active learning activity. It helps with spelling and comprehension of words students should know for discussion and analysis of the text.
A word bank is included to support students. You could redact this to make the puzzle more challenging.
The solution is printed on the second page. Download the preview file to see the solution and the grid.
