This activity is great to use with first, second, or low third graders as an extension to a compare and contrast lesson, or as an introductory lesson on comparing and contrasting. Included in the file is....
-An original story about two friends, Jill and Jan. The story shows how the two girls are alike and how they are different.
The directions require students to read the story three times on their own.
Then, as a whole, with a partner, or independently, students will use a yellow highlighter to mark how the girls are similar and a green highlighter to mark how the girl are different.
-A lined Venn diagram where students will record how the two girls are similar and different.
-Comprehension questions based on the paragraph.
-A CLOZE exercise where the students are required to use the information from the paragraph to complete the writing activity.
-Space for children to illustrate how the two girls are different.
All of the activities can be done as a whole-group activity, a small group activity, an independent activity, or a partner activity.
