A brief critical take on Flannery O'Connor's short story, "A Good Man Is Hard to Find."
Students can struggle to unpack this story. The irony is almost too deep. As with many challenging works of fiction, it can be helpful to lay out some critical ideas for students to give them a way into the story. That is what this brief essay is mean to do.
It is a short look at the moral system that O'Connor presents in many of her works, including "A Good Man Is Hard to Find." With some explanation of that world and how the characters in this story fit into it, students should have an easier time applying their own critical chops to O'Connor's story as they discuss and write about the story.
Instructors can use this kind of critical essay in many ways - and one of those ways is to simply sharpen their own ideas against those of another instructor. So, feel free to download. Alternatively, you can see the essay on the open internet at Medium - here.
