CALVIN COCONUT, TROUBLE MAGNET by Graham Salisbury

Fun and trouble just seemed to follow CALVIN COCONUT, TROUBLE MAGNET wherever he went. It wasn't always his fault, but it just seemed to find him. Calvin Coconut really was a Trouble Magnet. Even when he saved the life of a centipede, trouble multiplied.

He became the man of the house when he was 7 years old. That was because his father, Little Johnny Coconut, legally changed the whole family's names to Coconut, and then left to become a famous Las Vegas singer. Now, being the man of the house means Calvin has to be responsible, which isn't easy for a trouble magnet.

A series of hysterical situations arising from real-life situations will keep you rolling on the floor laughing and nodding you head with understanding. You've been in some of those situations yourself. This easy, relaxing story, told in the first person by Calvin, will become an instant favorite!

SURFER OF THE CENTURY by Ellie Crow

Duke Kahanamoku grew up in Hawaii in the early part of the Twentieth Century. His father taught him to swim when he was 4 years-old by tying a rope to his waist and tossing him from the outrigger canoe into the ocean! He began swimming every time he could, getting stronger and stronger in the powerful ocean waves that powered his surfboard. Do you think he was afraid of sharks in the Pacific Ocean? NO! He was taught that sharks around the islands were the protectors of the people.

Life wasn't always easy for Duke. He worked hard to make surfboards to sell so his family could eat. He surfed and swam miles every day. Because he did poorly in school, he dropped out of high school and worked on the beach and welcomed visitors with his friendly "Aloha!" But how did Duke become the Surfer of the Century? What did he have that others didn't have? What did he develop that improved swimming skills and gave YOU a valuable skill? What mistake did he make that almost made him miss the biggest event of his life? Why would Hawaii make a statue of him? You'll find out when you read this beautiful picture book biography of the gentle, shy, big-footed surfer who became an Olympian!

NIGHT OF THE SEVEN SPLASHES by Vivian Laubach Thompson

A Special Hawaiian Feltboard Legend about the Creation of the Hawaiian Islands by the Menehunes! Used by permission Petroglyph Press, Hilo, Hawaii

It begins: "'Once upon a time, in old Hawaii, on the island of Kauai, there lived seven menehunes. Not only seven, of course. Kauai was the home of the menehunes so the island was crowded with them!" from Night of the Seven Splashes

Hawaiian folklore has always lent flavor and enchantment to its culture. Their legends explained how they saw the world around them. In The Night of the Seven Splashes, you will hear how the Hawaiian islands were created using their greatest helpers, the volcano and the sea, to create new homes for seven Hawaiian menehunes, Eka, Peka, Luka, Oka, Kele, Moke, and Wene. The story for Night of the Seven Splashes, along with patterns for the feltboard characters and islands, is included in Kids' Wings Literature Guides for Calvin Coconut, Trouble Magnet and Surfer of the Century. You won't be able to buy this legend anywhere else, so jump right in and get it along with Calvin Coconut and Surfer of the Century. You and your kids will be delighted!
