This is a simple unit I created for my own first grade students to learn about heredity and reproduction. There is a non-fiction reader full of real life photographs. I have included an accompanying word wall and small cards that also contain real photographs. Students will be able to observe parents and their offspring in the photographs. They'll then be able to record/draw their own Science Art to display in the classroom.
I live in Florida, so I am using the Florida State Standards. I am not labeling the standard with my state coding…instead, I’m simply stating the standard (which should be rather generic for First Grade classrooms) on the recording sheet. This makes it easy for administrators and parents to see the merit of our work.
Science Standard For Heredity And Reproduction: Make observations that plants and animals closely resemble their parents, but variations exist among individuals within a population.

The additional sheets are exactly the same...they are simply either in color or black and white, or they are in half-sheet sizes so that students can easily glue them into science notebooks.
