Instead of writing a letter telling Santa what they want for Christmas, students write to inform him what they don't want for Christmas.
I have used this letter writing activity with the students in my classroom for several years, I model this activity using the steps of the writing process. The items I choose pertain to me. For example, I brainstorm a list and then narrow it to such things as a puppy, a basketball hoop and a baseball bat. The goal is to write a five paragraph letter with an introduction, three longer paragraphs, and a conclusion.
I like using this twist to the traditional letter to Santa as it challenges the students to think a bit more. Thinking about items that they don't want for Christmas is something they are not usually asked to do.
I have included a task sheet, a web for prewriting, and stationery that can be run back to back.
