A Listening Activity to Prepare Early Learners for Phonological Awareness:
Phonological Awareness depends on effective aural skills. The best predictor of early reading is the ability to hear, identify and manipulate sounds. This activity is a precursor to phonological skills. It focuses on attentive listening by providing emergent learners opportunities to focus and listen carefully to specific sounds in their classroom environment.
• Six School Sound Activities
• Reflection Cards
• “Stick Ear” cards and directions
• Two Home-School Connection Activities
Activities are in a hands-on, engaging format initially led by the teacher. Once activity formats are familiar, you may choose to make them student led.
