Folk Tale: The Little Red Hen
Here are some simple puppets that can be printed with color ink or it can be printed in black and white for your students to color. The puppets include the little red hen, the dog, the cat, the mouse or the goose....since different versions typically use either a mouse or a goose you can choose which page to print.
Read the folk tale, The Little Red Hen. Choose either the goose or the mouse puppets depending on which version you are reading. Have your students cut out the character puppets and attach them with tape to popsicle sticks. Have students retell the story by using their popsicle stick puppets and the storyboard. Students will begin retelling the story at the top left hand side of the page where you see the words “Once upon a time…” above the house. They can follow the arrows and read the words to help them retell the story. They can use the bubble words for the little red hen (“Who will help me?”) and the bubble words for each of her friends (“Not I.”). The story retelling finishes once the students reach “The End”. Students can use the storyboard and puppets to retell the story to their friends and family.
