Product Description
This is a full novel study BUNDLE for Richard Peck's "A Long Way From Chicago." Easy to follow and NO PREP!! You will receive the no-print discussion guide, student journal, and the unit test. This allows students to practice figurative language, characterization, point of view, sequence, vocabulary, and MANY other important skills!

I used this bundle at the end of the year to review reading concepts--super helpful for my class! The discussion guide will come to you as a SMART notebook, PowerPoint, AND PDF! The best part about this guide is there is NO PRINTING required! Save your printer allowance and have students take their own notes!

The discussion guide is perfect for use in a whole class or small group setting. Each chapter will take at least 40 minutes to complete, thus you receive at least 2 weeks of lesson plans!! By following this study, students practice a variety of reading skills including predictions, point of view, characterization, figurative language, theme, quoting, imagery, compare/contrast, making connections, inferences, summarizing, poetry, and vocabulary. In addition, this novel touches on many Social Studies themes! The characters experience The Roaring '20s, The Great Depression, WWII, and discuss famous Americans. This novel is the perfect review!!

The student journal includes 18 prompts for your students to explore. As students read through the novel A Long Way from Chicago, they are able to reflect on literary elements and make connections to their own lives. There are 2 journals included for each chapter. The Jump-Start Journal is intended for students to complete before they read the text. The second journal is the Sign-off Journal. Unlike the Jump-Start Journal, this second version is intended to be completed after students finish the chapter. These entries will allow students to reflect on the plot, characters, author purpose, etc. After finishing this packet, students will have written about A Long Way from Chicago 18 times! This will greatly improve their retention of the novel and their enjoyment of its themes.

The unit test includes 32 multiple choice, matching, and short answer questions. Students are asked to recall characters, recognize quotes, answer basic comprehension questions, and identify figurative language. The answer key is also included at the end of this document.
