In this creative assessment students are asked to create an original screen play based on one of the conflicts or themes found in A Midsummer Night's Dream. With adequate preparation time you will be amazed at the results and creativity a project like this allows room for. In groups, students will select the conflict they would like to focus on from a list provided, and create an original screen play, however they must modernize their play in regards to setting and language. The play they write must have 5 scenes, and follow the classic plot structure. This is an excellent tool to use as a refresher for studying plot with older students. In addition to writing and performing their play, students are asked to take charge of a secondary role for the production, this ranges from lighting and costumes, to pamphlet design and sound effects. If you have the capability of using an actual stage for performances, this really comes in handy in helping the students create a realistic production. The assignment is set up for groups of five students, but if you feel the workload is too heavy, feel free to adjust groups as needed. Included in this digital download are the instructions, conflict choices, secondary roles, and a rubric to grade the students on.
