This is a version of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' that I rewrote for my grade 6 class to perform. I shortened the script--keeping original text--simplified some sections, and added narrators for more roles and clarification.
I generally introduce some drama activities and have the students select a monologue in order to audition for our big play. After I cast the roles we rehearse for a few months and students collaborate as directors, set decorators, sound and lighting technicians, and costume and props committees to prepare for a big year-end show. It is always a blast!
I also have adapted scripts for Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, and The Taming of the Shrew, if you are interested:
Twelfth Night, for the elementary or middle school classroom
Hamlet, for the middle school classroom
Romeo and Juliet, for the elementary or middle school classroom
