Students will analyze Alanis Morisette's song "Ironic". They will take her not so very ironic situations and make them more ironic by adding details. Furthermore, students take one situation and make it into a short-story by adding even more ironic statements.
This lesson introduces examples of dramatic, verbal, and situational irony, and it could be taught with any drama, poetry, or creative writing. Students love hearing this "old" song, and they will remember how to distinguish ironic moments because of it! It is an easy lesson to teach that the students will enjoy!
