This document contains math word problems based on scientific concepts. There are 20 problems - enough to assign one problem each day for a month! (Teacher key with all answers included) Perfect for someone looking for science word problems, cgi math word problems, or differentiated math word problems.
Problems are formatted onto Avery 6193 label paper so that the teacher can quickly "peel and stick" the problem of the day onto students' math notebooks or a piece of lined paper. (If desired, problems can be quickly copied to a new documented to be copied for a class.)
The problems are differentiated, with nearly every problem having 3 number sets. Students choose the number set most appropriate for them, with the first number set being the most manageable, and the last number set being most challenging. The teacher can also suggest particular number sets to students - assigning the same problem, but differentiating for the varied abilities in a classroom!
These problems work great in a classroom where students work in groups or individually to confront challenging word problems. In a Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) classroom, teachers may choose to conference with students while solving these word problems and allow students to share the many strategies they have used to solve the problem.
Mathematic concepts covered through word problems include: multi-step word problems, extraneous information, multi-digit multiplication, negative numbers, multi-digit division, geometry (measurement and formulas), operations with fractions, operations with decimals, and more!
Scientific concepts covered through word problems include: amount of rainfall, temperature, speed of a rollercoaster, volume, density and mass, cost/usage of water, deforestation, animal survival, and more!
