There is nothing like a mother's love! This is a fun activity for your students to do on Mother’s Day or any other time you want to pay tribute to mothers. Students will love how the colors and items used on their glyphs depend on information about them as individuals. If for any reason, one of your students does not have a mother, he or she may create a glyph for a grandparent, aunt, or some other special lady in his or her life.
Depending on the age group of your students, you may want to explain that “glyph” is short for “hieroglyphics”. Hieroglyphics were pictures, characters, or symbols that were used in ancient civilizations (particularly associated with ancient Egypt) to represent words or phrases.
