A Musical Thunderstorm: Music Making for Classroom, Group, or Assembly is an activity I have used with a class of Kindergarteners learning about dynamics, all the way up to an all-school assembly in a K-8 school who needed a fun body-break.
It is so simply performed using light, vocal noises, and body percussion. No instruments or musical-experience needed. But, the impact is amazing when everyone creates music together.
In a classroom setting, I project the pictures up on my projector, and I don’t even need to read the text to the students, they just follow the pictures.
Included is a chart that explains how the lights, voices, and body-sounds change as the text on the cards are read. Also Included are Notes For The Teacher section with extensions, interdisciplinary ideas for the science classroom and other information.
I hope your students enjoy this activity as much as mine.
