In this activity students will have the opportunity to rebuild a hypothetical nation’s electric grid using renewable energy sources. They are provided data on elevation, river flow rates, wind speeds, sunlight exposure averages and other data. Students will work as a collaborative team to provide the most efficient and cost effective means of power generation for their assigned cities. They will factor the cost of their project, creating competition against other teams in the classroom. The student’s final product must contain the final project cost, a brief explanation of how the raw resource is converted to electricity, and what the advantages and disadvantages each type of plant brings.
