My principal asked that teachers at my school take some time to teach students about their brains and the ability for them to increase their learning. I created 2 poems about neurons and the brain for young students (Kindergarten, first grade). I also included a quick review sheet on adding doubles up to 10 and then a practice sheet of adding doubles up to ten. (So that my students could practice and then see how practicing made an activity easier.) Also, I included a page which allows students to make as many words as possible out or the word "Neurons" as well as several different versions of writing paper with the title "My Brain". Hopefully this will come in handy for you.
Please view the mini windows, and download the free preview as it contains the entire download (minus the black lines). I am also including a recording of my voice with both poems. One of the poems is just a poem and the recording is meant just in case you'd like for your students to hear the poem. The other recording of the second poem is more of a chant. I recorded it so that you could get the feel of the poem. It is just my voice....nothing fancy. I have to say that I played this poem/chant to 3 different classes of first graders and each class went nuts over it. I don't know why....they just liked it....a lot. I seriously had to play it about 7 times to each class. Also, my 4 year old is asking to hear the "brain song". It's actually called, "Neurons...Snap!"
